Aftercare for Oral Piercings
The oral piercing you have had performed has been fitted with jewellery of a larger size to help the piercing settle, heal and allow for any swelling. When the piercing has settled (usually after about 1-2 weeks) it is possible to change the jewellery to a smaller size. You must then leave this smaller jewellery in for at least 3 months to allow the piercing to heal. Be prepared for your tongue to swell due to the piercing.
- Please rinse your mouth with our mouthwash four times a day for the first 2 weeks, then twice a day, and with water after every meal, drink and cigarette. Continue cleaning for at least 3 months.
- Brush teeth gently two or three times a day with toothpaste, also gently brush tongue to remove any film that may build up.
- Ice will reduce swelling however it is best to avoid sweet things such as ice cream as the sugar encourages build up of bacteria.
- If you need to take a pain killer do not take Aspirin. Ibuprofen is ideal and also reduces swelling.
- Kissing or any other form of oral contact should be avoided for at least 2 weeks.
- DO NOT stop eating, it is important to eat properly to aid the healing process
The aftercare of your piercing is your own responsibility and your personal hygiene is of utmost importance.
If in any doubt about your piercing do not hesitate to contact your piercer.
You can use Arnica tablets for swelling if needed.
If your piercing bleeds, apply pressure for 15 minutes, if after this time the bleeding has not stopped, repeat. If not stopped after 30 mins seek medical advice
