Tattoo Aftercare Information
REMEMBER - your tattoo is not finished until it is totally healed:
When your tattoo is completed, it will be cleaned and covered. From then on it's up to you take care of it and guarantee a beautiful finished piece.
- Before touching your tattoo at any time, make sure that you WASH YOUR HANDS with antibacterial soap!.
- Leave the cover on for approximately 1 hour.
- Use only your hands or fingertips to wash your tattoo using warm water and antibacterial soap. Remove all traces of blood and ink from the skin; the tattoo should no longer look shiney if it is properly cleaned.
- Leave the tattoo to dry in the air naturally for around 10 minutes.
- Apply a thin coat (too much will suffocate your tattoo and delay healing) of aftercare cream. Bepanthen, Preperation H or our range of Tattoo Aftercare will work well.
- Do not re-cover the tattoo. Repeat the cleaning process in the evening, and then 3 times daily for approximately 2 weeks. If the tattoo starts to feel tight or dry, an unscented moisturiser can be applied.
- Following these procedures will reduce scabbing. Most people will only develop a thin film over the tattoo that will flake off for 2 weeks.
- Keeping your tattoo clean will avoid any risk of infection.
- Try to avoid long soaks in the bath. Hot water in contact with your tattoo for long periods will detach the scabs or soak into the skin and loosen the ink. This will lead to it looking patchy when healed. A short shower is preferable for the first 2 weeks.
- Avoid swimming, saunas and hot tubs during healing.
- Avoid vigorous exercise, sports & going to the gym during the healing process. Sweat will irritate the tattoo and it increases the risk of infection.
- DO NOT pick and scratch at the healing tattoo as this will remove the ink. You will then have to have the tattoo re-coloured.
This advice is essential for a good final result.
